I think everybody has heard of Panasonics new release, the LX100. When I heard about and read the specs on this camera I immediately put in my pre-order. Many would ask what's so special about this camera and the reasons I ordered it. One of my favourite cameras of all time is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1. Couple this camera with the Panasonic LC1 with it's spectacular lens and what do you get? The Panasonic LX100.

One of my favourite P&S cameras is the Panasonic LX5 and image quality is really good at low ISO. One of the best features of this small camera is the aspect ratio switch on the lens. I've been waiting for someone to bring out a large sensor camera with this feature and lo and behold, Panasonic have done it again. Add all these features, a fast fixed lens, in-built EVF, an aspect ratio switch and a 4/3 sensor and you've got a winner. I predict this camera is going to be a winner for Panasonic and all the other companies will follow suit.

So, back to the reason why I'm posting some images from this combination.I haven't used this combination fo some time and I really felt guilty about that so I took it out again after dusting it down. I's actually forgotten how heavy this combination is after using M43 and Sony cameras for some time now. I remember seeing the images from this combination for the first time, I was over the moon. It was the first time I shot raw and developed in Silkypix. I didn't find Silkypix all that bad (not as bad as some people make it out to be), and it got the best image quality out of the Panasonic raw files for me.

Conclusion: Although modern cameras produce better files than the L1, they really hold their own and if anyone is looking for a great combination you could do worse than getting this camera. The Elmar 14-150 f3.5-5.6 is one of the best lenses I've ever used and after trying it out on the E-M1 (via adapter) it still produces some great images at all focal lengths and apertures. It's not too slow to focus either, I can definately live with the speed.

Horizontal Format

Horizontal Format

Take a look at yesterdays post. Look really hard at the image and then come back to this one and compare the two. Notice a semblence? It's actually the same place, just photographed differently. One vertical and one horizontal. What I'm trying to say here is that always, always photograph a scene from every angle and in as many formats as you can. This includes vertical, horizontal, try a 1:1 ratio or in 16:9 ratio. You will be amazed, I'm sure of it.

Olympus E-PL1 and the 14-42 kit lens revisited

Olympus E-PL1 and the 14-42 kit lens revisited

This second image has a slightly different angle of view to it and has been processed differently. But only slightly. White balance is cooler and I brought the buoy into the foreground.

This si the last in this series though I do have a lot more of these. One thing to remember, if you don't see a good composition when taking in the larger picture, move in close and get thos shrter focal length lenses on the camera. Go for detail and I think you will have a great time.

What I was missing here was a ladder to get higher. I'm sure there were a lot more images I could have made from a different angle. Some photographers never leave the house without a ladder. I think my wife would have something to say if I started that.

This abandoned boat had been on the beach for some time. When the tide was out, you could walk around the boat enabling you to work it. i took many images here and must have spend more than an hour just going around the boat. I also did it in both directions. It's amazing what you miss when only doing this in one direction. Just the same really a going for a walk, you tend to see what's in front and to the sides. How many people look behind them also. Totally different. I've not got into the habit or always looking behind me when I'm out and about. Oh yes, don't forget to look up and down aswell.
