Take a look at yesterdays post. Look really hard at the image and then come back to this one and compare the two. Notice a semblence? It's actually the same place, just photographed differently. One vertical and one horizontal. What I'm trying to say here is that always, always photograph a scene from every angle and in as many formats as you can. This includes vertical, horizontal, try a 1:1 ratio or in 16:9 ratio. You will be amazed, I'm sure of it.

05/18/12 Olympus E-P3 fitted with the mZD 14-150 LensFocusing with the E-P3 is pretty fast, even with the older lenses. I find that focusing with the 12 f2 or the 45 f1.8 is really fast, nearly instantaneous. That makes it fun to use. Even with the 14-150 focusing is ok, but it's not made for sports photography. Actually the whole system isn't designed for that. If you want to do sports photography you really are better off with a DSLR. 1850

05/17/12 Square FormatI've said it before and I'll say it again, the more I photograph in the square format the more I like it, especially using a zoom lens. I can frame it in a totally different way from the normal 4:3 or 3:2 format. I've also been dabling in the 16:9 format which seems great. The only problem is, the Panasonic GH2 is the only camera on the market right now that has an extra wide sensor so that when you photograph in the 16:9 format, you don't lose pixels doing it. I'm not going to be buying the GH2 but I'll be keeping an eye out on future cameras that offer this feature. It's a great idea and the format opens up a whole new world. 2026

05/16/12 Frames III think I've taken more pictures with this lens than with all the others combined. I just think it's a great travel lens. I always take it along on my outings, even if I don't think I'm going to use it. You never know. 1986

05/11/12 Spring is here!Spring is here at last! The older I get the longer the winters seem to get. When spring pokes it's head around the corner is the time I start to plan my outings in earnest. Every weekend is planned and booked for weeks ahead and everything else get put on hold. It was quite windy as we took an afternoon outing to a special place of ours and the blossoms were actually starting to fade. As a steady breeze blew the petals were being blown off at an alarming rate. Looks just like it was snowing. Very pretty and is the kind of image that I can photograph over and over again. 1859

05/10/12 mZD ED 14-150 f4.0-5.6This is one lens I keep coming back to. It makes for a great holiday lens if you don't fancy changing lenses or just want to take one lens with you for convenience. There may be better lenses out there but I just like using this one. Results are good and adequate for my needs. It is also lighter than the Panasonic 14-140 which was designed for the videographer in mind. I use the 14-140 on a Panasonic G1 and the results are impressive. I do believe there is a quality assurance problem somewhere within Panasonic because not all people who bought one got a good copy. Luckily my copy is pretty sharp.
The 14-150 is not a fast lens by any means and the image quality at 150mm and f5.6 is not top notch. Stop down to f8 however and the image quality increses dramatically. Very acceptable. F8 seems to be the optimum aperture for the lens and sensor, because stopping down to f11 sees a dramatic image degradation, so mine stays at f8 most of the time at 150mm. Background separation is possible with all lenses, it just depends how far away the background is from what you want to photograph. It's a lot easier with fast lenses of course as DOF is quite small. This image was shot at f8 and the cloud in the background was miles away so the bokeh is quite good. 2081

05/09/12 Frame within a FrameI like to frame an image within another frame. These images are not easy to find and think yourself lucky to just see one right in front of you. I normally have to look for these and I don't find them very often. I was out the other day with the fantastic Olympus mZD ED 12 f2 prime lens. Just got it and haven't used it much yet so I thought I'd give it a little outing. This is a park we go to quite often as it is quite large and I can spend hours just roaming around. It's a photographers paradise in a way. Plenty of scope for different types of images. I had stopped to change lenses and after packing the old lens away I turned around and found this. I was delighted. This is the sort of image I really like. A frame within a frame within a frame. I just wish I could find more of them. 2751

The texture and the detain in the mushroom is great. I've only used this lens on an Olympus camera up to now, but planning on testing it on the Nex-5N as soon as I get a chance. 1783

12/14/11 Voigtlaender Skopar 50 f2.5This really is a tiny lens and you have to get used to the quirky way to change aperture on it. To do this you have to holt the focusing ring with one hand and rotate the front element with the other. First time I've seen this but I suppose I can get used to it. I also had difficulty in getting sharp images with this one but looking at these, they seen alright. Rendition is typical of a Voigtlaender lens, and I really like it. 2199

12/01/11 Voigtlaender Skopar 50 f2.5I've been having trouble getting used to this lens and I don't know why. It's a small lens with great build quality. Focusing is smooth and the aperture ring is very light. I've got other legacy lenses in the 50 range and I don't have a problem with them. Maybe I nees dome time with this lens. I haven't got many images that I have kept from this lens but this is one that I like. Focus is where I wanted it to focus and the colours and contrast are ok. Again, I may need to try this out on the Nex-5N. 1776
