I'll have to remember to stop down a little with this lens but then I'd have to increase the ISO. I'm not terribly impressed with the high ISO performance of the E-PL1 but a bit of noise reduction might do the trick. I'll have to test it next time. It really doesn't make a difference if I use the E-PL1 or the E-P3. It's just that focusing on the latter is a lot better.

Very fast when they want to be but they can also stand so still for such a long time. This one posed quite nicely for me and I focused again the eye. Very nice colours. I focussed on the tounge and not the exes this time as I wanted that pink to come out in contrast to the rest of the image. Again wide open I maybe should have stopped down half a stop. Generally though, I like the image as dark as it is. 2039

If you look closely you will see that I got the front of the eyes in focus but the nose is not quite sharp. In future I need to stop down to maybe f2.5 or f2.8 when photographing at this close range. Just an inch in either direction made a big difference to the image quality and I lost quite a few images to this effect. 1203

I must admit that I use this camera the most for manual focusing for the simple fact that I find it easier with this camera than on the newer ones like the E-P3 or OMD. I made the mistake here of taking for use with my AF lenses. I should have taken the E-P3 for this but live and learn. Next time it will be the E-P3..note to self.
I have mentioned in the past that I like going into aquariums and terariums for some fun photography, and although I have a lot of these type of images, I just can't help myself. I enjoy it too much to pass photographing these creatures on such occasions. Hope you enjoy the following images. 2094
E-PL1 Focal Length: 45 mm Aperture: f/1.8 Exposure Time: 1/125 sec ISO: 200 09/04/12  Panasonic GF1 with the 20 f1.7Having spoken earlier about a pro body from Panasonic got me thinking about my images with the GF1 and the G1. Both produce very good images and just because they now seem to be old hat doesn't mean that they should be discarded for new bodies. The image above was taken out of plane window on my way down to Spain in March of 2010. Quality can hold up against the newer bodies as it was taken at ISO 100. Where most newer bodies are better is at higher ISO, but if you have noticed I rarely use ISO above 800. So this for me has no value. These older bodies should do me fine and I shouldn't be considering upgrading my bodies. But, being me, and being a bit of a gear nut I just can't help myself and I will be purchasing new equipment at some time.
the reason for this post is the fact that Panasonic have now brought out the 12-35 f2.8 lens (24-70 f2.8 35mm equivelent). The 35-100 f2.8 (70-200 f2.8 35mm equivelent) has also been announced but not yet on the market. This for me is the beginning of the pro lenses for the m4/3 format. I don't think that Panasonic would be bringing these out without a pro body on the drawing board. That is what I have been waiting for.
The 12-35 seems to be a lovely lens and reviews have shown that it is highly regarded. I'm sure that the 35-100 will be of the same quality and if I'm honest with myself, those two lenses and a fast prime should cover my shooting needs quite well. I just hope Panasonic aren't sitting on the fence or twiddling their thumbs about this, I'm sure I'm not the only one eagerly awaiting a new high end body from Panasonic. 2055
DMC-GF1 Focal Length: 20 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 10/10000 sec ISO: 100 09/03/12  Sony 55-210 on the Nex-7Having only used this lens on a couple of occations and only for a short outing, I'm not quite sure about it. Either it's me not used to the focal length or the lens isn't quite as sharp as others I have seen on the Internet. I need to use the lens for a longer period and do some tests with it before deciding if I'll keep it or not. I'm thinking now of the Tamron 18-200 if this doesn't work out for me. Might take me some time to decide this but I'm not really in a rush to do this. I have my beloved Olympus 14-150 which I think is a wonderful lens. 1386
NEX-7 Focal Length: 120 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/320 sec ISO: 100 09/02/12  Olympus OM-D and the mZD 45 f1.8This is the last post for now about this combination but it won't be the last in this photoblog. I have so many lenses yet to test and use that time is at a premium right now. I'm still trying to find the right occation to try the 14-150 on the OM-D but I'm sure I'll get to it quie soon.
This image was one of the last I took on that day and I'm impressed by the detail in the leaves and the flowers themselves. I have the OM-D set to -0.3EV permanently as I find it does overexpose slightly but I'm sure there is also camera variation out there. 1207
