I thought some of you might appreciate some more images from this camera-lens combination as there seems to be a lot of copy variation floating about. Some love this lens while others like me aren't too impressed with it. Sample variation is a problem but I should have thought in this day and age, they should be able to reduce it to near the 0% variation point. Seems I'm wrong again. There's also a PZ 45-175 lens and it seems to have the same problem as this one. Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

03/07/14  Panasonic PZ 14-42 f3.5-5.6Looking at the resolution of this image has got me pretty confused right now. The resolution is much better than the one posted yesterday. It was made in exactly the same way using images at the same resolution. Looks much better though, no artifacts in the individual images. This is the PZ zoom that Panasonic brought out some time ago and one which I have a love-hate relationship with. It seems to perform better on Olympus bodies (actually much better) for some reason. I just can't figure it out. I know the camera used is pretty old but I've also tested it on a G5 with the same results. Still better on Olympus bodies. 1088

The Marketing Department must be working overtime because nobody in their right mind would create something like this. I'm sure these people think that the longer the title a lens has, the better the lens and more people are going to buy it. Well, this is one case it's quite the opposite in my opinion. I bought this lens because I knew where I was going and I knew I wanted something small that could fit in a small bag. My usual lens the Panasonic 14-45 was a little too large and so my decision to purchase the PZ power zoom. I was a little worried by the posts on some forums stating the lens had shutter shock problems at certain shutter speeds, but I went ahead anyway. After using the lens for almost a week and after many images at different shutter speeds, I personally can't say that I experienced shutter shock with this lens. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I haven't experienced it. At present I own three zoom lenses, the Panasonic PZ 14-42 and the Sony E 16-50. I can tell you now that I'm not a fan of these zoom lenses although the Olympus 12-50 has a better implementation in my opinion. Maybe it has to do with the little rocker switch on the side, I don't know, but I much prefer using the Oly 12-50 because you turn the barrel and your hand stays where it should be, on the lens itself. When using the other two I find I have to readjust my grip again before pressing the shutter and it brings me out of rythm. Your mileage may vary. Image quality seems to be ok, but I wouldn't use the lens if I was going on an important job. It's ok for snaps and for web use but printing is a not an option for me with this lens. Obviously being a very small package it does have it's advantages and I will use it again on the occasions where a small camera and lens is a must, but I will not be using it on a daily basis. For that, there are much better lenses on the market. 1171

10/10/13  Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f3.5-5.6I look at this image and it has something magical for me. I hold it as one of my best images but that's just my opinion. Someone out there will probably comment that it's rubbish, but then again that's also only an opinion. This was taken with the Panasonic GF1 and the 14-45 kit lens that it came with. I still use this combination from time to time and I still hold the 14-45 as one of the best kit lenses ever made. 1325

06/09/13  Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensThis is the last image from this combination for now. These are the same two from the fist image I posted a few days ago. Heading back to the club house after what must have been a couple of hours rowing up and down the Main. Must have been a good outing. They still looked fresh too.
I think the 14-45 will stay on the GF1 from now on becaue it makes it quite a small combination and the grip I bought for the GF1 really enhanses the feel of the camera for me. Really fun to use, although dynamic range isn't as good ans the newer generation cameras, I still think it still takes very good images and the only drawback of it all is me. The combination can do more that I can want froma system and I keep asking myself why I need the other cameras in my arsenal. The answer is of course, GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome). 1083

06/07/13  Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensIf I was honest and looking at images at this size from different companies I don't think I could tell the difference. Could I tell that this image was from the GF1 and not from an Olympus OM-D? No I don't think so. Having said that there are a few lenses that do stand out and do prefer using them over others. This lens beats the Olympus 14-42 kit lens hands down in my opinion but I have read that others must have a steller Olympus kit lens as they find it very good.
This image was taken at an aperture of f/5.6 and at 45mm. So, it was wide open and it is actually quite sharp from corner to corner which says a lot for a kit lens.
The reason I actually took this image was because I saw a paddler going along quite nicely down the river Main. I'm not sure if I would do this as barge traffic is quite heavy here. 1037

06/06/13  Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensI couldn't let this series go without including a monchrome image (or two). I find that the lens makes a big difference in how I convert images to black and white. This one turned out ok.
Monochrome for me is an image with a lot of contrast, nearly harsh. I have seem some that contain only grey and have a distinct lack of contrast. Some of those image work obviously but most do not and are really not to my liking. Just my opinion of course. 1170

I don't know how you see this image but on my calibrated monitor, there could be a slight red tint to the image, something I get a lot of with my Panasonic cameras. Please let me know what you think of this one. Your monitor could be calibrated differently to mine. I really would appreciate some feedback on this one. 1035
