Another image that I like. This was really a snapshot I took in the park one day, not really thinking that the image would come out as it did. I don't want to say too much regarding these images from the Fujifilm system, because they speak for themselves. People looking for great bokeh from these longer lenses could do a LOT worse than purchasing into the Fujifilm system with this combination.

12/14/13 Fujinon XF 55-200 f3.5-4.8 R LM OIS975
X-E1 Focal Length: 200 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/125 sec ISO: 1000 • Fujifilm • X-E1 • 55-200 f3.5-4.8
12/13/13 Fujinon XF 55-200 f3.5-4.8 R LM OISThere's not a lot to say about this image. It was taken at full zoom ot 200mm (35=300) which is the most I neet for most purposes. I rarely go over this range unless I know beforehand what I'm going to shoot. Then another system comes into play. 1193
X-E1 Focal Length: 200 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/750 sec ISO: 200 • Fujifilm • X-E1 • 55-200 f3.5-4.8
12/12/13 Fujinon XF 55-200 f3.5-4.8 R LM OISEven if I do say so myself, this is one lovely image. The rendition is simply superb and the colours just pop. Very sharp with lots of micro contrast and just look at the bokeh. The quality is again, simply superb. As I look at the image quality from this lens I'm surprised it doesn't cost double or even triple what Fujifilm are asking for it. I bought it when the price was around the €650 point and as I look at the price today it's gone up to over €700. No wonder because so many people are chasing after this lens as they realize what it's capable of. 1124
X-E1 Focal Length: 172.4 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/2200 sec ISO: 400 • Fujifilm • X-E1 • 55-200 f3.5-4.8
12/11/13 Fujinon XF 55-200 f3.5-4.8 R LM OISI've put some Dahlia images together so you can see what the lens is capable of. The distance to the flowers was near MFD but still, I'm very impressed by the image quality. I just love the rendition but I think the sensor comes into play here as well. This is as close as I'm going to get to a Leica combination because they are way beyond my means. Another reason is that the longest lens you can get for a modern Leica is a 135mm. Please correct me if I'm wrong. 1019

12/10/13 Fujinon XF 55-200 f3.5-4.8 R LM OISHaving thought about this purchase for some time, I came to the conclusion that I needed something longer for this system. The 18-55 kit lens is really a great lens but it's lacking on the long end for me personally. I like to be able to zoom in quite a bit and was one reason why the camera was being left on the shelf while others got to go out. So, what's the lens like? Nice, but, it is a little front heavy on the X-E1. I don't find it very well balanced and I have to concentrate to hold the system steady. After taking a shot I'm not exactly sure if I actually got a sharp image or not and I tend to take multiple shots to make sure I did. However, after looking at the images from the lens I can conffirm that it takes very nice looking images and quite sharp. Bokeh is wonderful and I'll be posting some examples of bokeh in the coming days. One thing I have noticed is that he zoom ring is rather stiff and I'm sure that it's going to loosen up as I use the lens. I don't like a ring that's too loose but this one is quite hard to turn. If you look at the image above, you may be able to imagine why it's front heavy. The X-E1 looks quite small and even though I've got the grip on the X-E1 it doesn't fully compensate for the lens weight. The lens is a keeper though and I'm hoping to get some nice images from the lens in the coming years because this system isn't going anywhere. P.S. I know the lens looks kind of dirty on the image. 1210

12/09/13 Panasonic G5 - Panasonic 12-35 f2.8One taken at what I would call near infinity. I know there's a lot of cloud in this image and you can't tell from looking at thos if the lens is sharp or not, but look at the strip of land at the bottom. Might be difficult to see at this size but I don't believe that it's as sharp as it should be. I've heard that the new Olympus 12-40 f2.8 is exceptionally sharp and a few pro photographers are replacing some of their prime lenses with the 12-40 f2.8. That is high praise indeed and I'm seriously thinking that the new E-M1 and that lens would make a fantastic landscape configuration. Watch this space! 1156

12/08/13 Panasonic G5 - Panasonic 12-35 f2.8Another image shot at mid-range. I personally can't fault this lens for anything at this distance. I know it's not a masterpiece but that's entirely my fault. These are test images to see how the lens performs. 1236
DMC-G5 Focal Length: 35 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/1600 sec ISO: 160 • Panasonic • G5 • 12-35 f2.8
12/07/13 Panasonic G5 - Panasonic 12-35 f2.8Yesterdays image was shot at close range and you can see how sharp it is. I was near to MFD for the lens. The image above is what I would class as mid-range and again the image is sharp. Note how much micro contrast there is, very nice and to my liking. hardly any PP done to this image apart from a little USM after downsizing. 1367
DMC-G5 Focal Length: 33 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/2000 sec ISO: 160 • Panasonic • G5 • 12-35 f2.8
12/06/13 Panasonic G5 - Panasonic 12-35 f2.8I must say this is one exceptional lens, as long as I don't look to take landscape images with focusing set more towards infinity. For near to mid range images it's fine, but I believe I've mentioned it before I believe there are better lenses suited for sweeping landscape images. I don't think this lens was primarily designed for that purpose and I don't use it for that either. You can compare this lens with the Canon or Nikon 24-70 f2.8 lenses. I wouldn't use those for that purpose either. But this is only my opinion as I've read that a lot of people use this lens for landscape shooting. Horses for courses and all that. 1178

12/05/13 Panasonic G5 - Panasonic 100-300 f4-5.6On the same outing as yesterdays post I also took the Panasonic 100-300 f4-5.6 along to test on the G5. Normally I like using the Olympus mZD 75-300 because it's a little smaller and has a better feel to it than the Panasonic 100-300. Looking at the image quality from both, there is little difference and if you're looking for a 600mm equivalent lens for your m4/3 system, then you can safely choose between these two. I believe the Panasonic is cheaper as I'm writing this post but I find the build quality of the Olympus a little better. As a matter of interest Olympus have now brought out a second version of the 75-300, but I'm still very pleased with image quality from the original version and I'm not planning on upgrading. Not much point really because I don't use these lenses all that much, but it's nice to know that you've got that focal length when needed. 1277
