05/23/12 Olympus mZD 14-150This image shows again what is possible with the m4/3 system as regards to background separation.
The background here is a bit busy but not too distracting. The flower is in focus and is sharp at 150.
The colours look good and are accurate. 1350
E-P3 Focal Length: 150 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/320 sec ISO: 200 05/22/12 Olympus mZD 14-150I keep coming back to this lens because I think it's one of the best travel lenses out there. You could, of course, select the 14-42 and the 40-150 lenses but that means a lens change which would mean I would do it often. I could have 2 cameras but that again means changing cameras. The 14-150 eliminates this hassle and is perfect...for me! 1344

05/21/12 Geese at War III really couldn't believe my eyes what happened next. As on queue, the geese either side of the middle one just attacked it and pushed it under the water. Having been watching the developements I'm certain that this was a planned attack. They really attempted to keep the goose underwater for as long as they could. I'm not sure the lone goose knew what hit it. One minute it was floating quite merrily on the lake, the next minute it had two others trying to drown it. A really amazing thing to watch. Never knew that geese could coordinate something like this. 1643

05/20/12 Geese at War II was in a park one day just enjoying the sun and watching these geese. It was really quite interesting to watch this developement over a 10 minute period. In the image above (taken with my beloved mZD 14-150 on an E-P3) as these two geese entered the water and swan either side of this lone goose.
They swan like this for a few minutes before something happened that really got me thinking.
Exactly what happened? See tomorrows post. 1495

05/19/12 Background SeparationI hear quite often that background separation (or bokeh) is terrible with the micro four thirds cameras. I think this image, using the mZD 14-150 on the E-P3 shows quite clearly that it is not terrible. Personally I think it's great. The separation between the subject and background has to be large enough. This was taken at f5.6. 1921
E-P3 Focal Length: 150 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/500 sec ISO: 200 05/18/12 Olympus E-P3 fitted with the mZD 14-150 LensFocusing with the E-P3 is pretty fast, even with the older lenses. I find that focusing with the 12 f2 or the 45 f1.8 is really fast, nearly instantaneous. That makes it fun to use. Even with the 14-150 focusing is ok, but it's not made for sports photography. Actually the whole system isn't designed for that. If you want to do sports photography you really are better off with a DSLR. 1850

05/17/12 Square FormatI've said it before and I'll say it again, the more I photograph in the square format the more I like it, especially using a zoom lens. I can frame it in a totally different way from the normal 4:3 or 3:2 format. I've also been dabling in the 16:9 format which seems great. The only problem is, the Panasonic GH2 is the only camera on the market right now that has an extra wide sensor so that when you photograph in the 16:9 format, you don't lose pixels doing it. I'm not going to be buying the GH2 but I'll be keeping an eye out on future cameras that offer this feature. It's a great idea and the format opens up a whole new world. 2024

05/17/12 Great HolidayStill trying to figure things out here, hence the post.
Had a great holiday at the Finca in Spain a few weeks ago. What a great place to spend some time. 1983
E-PL1 Focal Length: 9 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/400 sec ISO: 200 05/16/12 Frames III think I've taken more pictures with this lens than with all the others combined. I just think it's a great travel lens. I always take it along on my outings, even if I don't think I'm going to use it. You never know. 1983

05/16/12 Another Test PostI've been having a few problems recently with my server so I thought I'd post another portait of my better half to test if everything is ok again.
