Landscapes II

Landscapes II

When we were up at 3000m and looking across at these massive peakes across the valley, we were speechless. We just looked for ages. At first I left my camera where it was and just sat taking in the scenery. All around us, whichever way you looked this is the sort of view we had.
I think sometimes it does some good to stop photographing the land and sit and enjoy what's in front of you. It took me some time to realise that.

Landscapes

My true love is photographing landscapes much like the image above. I'm not saying I'm any good at it but that's the sort of photography I love doing. This was taken in the Dolomite region of Italy and for those who have never been there, you should go. Amazing lanscapes to be photographed and scenes that you will never forget. Unfortunately this was quite a hazy day but when your up that mountain at 3000m you really don't care. Some people never get to see these scenes from this height and it really saddens me because I believe everyone should get the chance to see things from a different perspective. When you're up there and just look around, you realise just how small we really are.

Olympus mZD 14-150 on the OM-D

Olympus mZD 14-150 on the OM-D

This isn't so much about the camera lens combination but more about the image format. I think this is the first trip I have ever made only using the squre format for 90% of my images. I like it, I can compose easier that with the 3:2 format (which I dislike) and even better than using the 4:3 format. The only other format I used quite a bit was the 16:9 because I wanted to get that panorama feeling to the images.

Olympus mZD 14-150 on the OM-D

Olympus mZD 14-150 on the OM-D

For those who would like to argue that the mZD 14-150 lens doesn't deliver then take a look at the image above. OK, I'll take the critisism that it does vignette some which has to be repaired in post processing but apart from that I'm quite happy with the quality.
This image was taken on the same day as we drove down to Tuscany through pouring rain that didn't seem to want to stop. Come evening however, the clouds broke up and the last of the suns rays touched these houses in the background. A nice touch and end to the day I thought.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

This is the last image. I can't fault this one at all. OK, these aren't fine art images but they do tell a story about this lens. If you're looking for a light compact travel lens, this is the one for you.
Notice the use of the square format which I tend to use exclusively with my m4/3 equipment lately. I just like the format and it makes framing the subject easier for me. Also perfect for portrait shots.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

I think these images are sharp, even at this low resolution. Having said that, the smaller the resolution the shrper the images seems to be. But, having looked at the originals of these on my monitor I've come to the same conclusion. Maybe a little soft at the edges but it's good enough for me. I don't sell my images so I'm quite happy.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

A small study of a flower to see just how sharp the mZD 14-150 is on the OM-D. Just three images in 3 different posts all taken with the OM-D and the mZD 14-150 lens. This will be the last of the 14-150 images again for now. After these posts I'll go back a little in time and post some images using some "antique" equipment. In the day and age of fast moving markets, and new equipment comes along almost on a daily basis, I think we all tend to get cought up in it to some degree. If you're like me then you get cought up in it a lot. But that's me, I've always been a bit of a technical freak.

I think these three images shows that it's not the equipment we use, but how it's used.
See for yourselves.

Amazing Colours

Amazing Colours

Some amazing colours. I have no particular reason for posting this image (taken with the OM-D and mZD 14-150 combination). I just don't seem to see colours like these pretty often.

Nik SFXII

Nik SFXII

There are times when you know an image will look better in B&W than in colour. This is such an image. Using Nik SFXII to develop it allows you a lot of leaway in the way the image will look. There's so much control that I sometimes get lost in all of it, but I do get there eventually. I think it's time to create some profiles because every time  I start a conversion, it's like starting from scratch again. Getting old I suppose.

E-M5 and mZD 14-150 Combination

E-M5 and mZD 14-150 Combination

A bit of an abstract one here. I just liked the clash of coulours between the reds and yellows. Bokeh could be better but I don't have a prime that long and that fast to take a shot like this.
