07/12/12 Sigma 30 f2.8 for Nex IHaving just talked about the Sigma 19 f2.8 for Nex and being really impressed with it, I looked the pricing for the other lens they brought out, the 30 f2.8. At €200 I just couldn't resist. It really is a bargain at that price and since Sony have only the 30 macro on offer (which doesn't really attract me) I ordered it. If it's at all possible this lens is even better than the 19 f2.8, which I will show in the coming posts.
The images will be very similar to the ones taken with the 19 f2.8 because I wanted to do a comparison on the same subjects at the same time. I am really impressed with these two lenses. 1302
NEX-5N Focal Length: 30 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/800 sec ISO: 100 07/11/12 Sigma 19 f2.8 for Nex VIThis will be the last image from this lens for the present. The image in this post is a square crop from the image yesterday. Like I've stated in the past, I wish I could select the quare format with these cameras. It makes it easier to compose the photograph in the first place. Here's to hoping that Sony brings that in in the next firmware update, but I'm not holding my breath. 1731
NEX-5N Focal Length: 19 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/640 sec ISO: 100 07/10/12 Sigma 19 f2.8 for Nex VI think I'm going to enjoy using this lens on my landscaping trips. Just seems to produce the type of image that I like. 13078
NEX-5N Focal Length: 19 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/1000 sec ISO: 100 07/09/12 Sigma 19 f2.8 for Nex IVI like the colours, I like the contrast and I like the sharpness. I can't fault this lens at all.
Remember, all these images were taken on the Nex-5N which is a fine camera. It might be different on the Nex-7 with it's 24MP sensor but I doubt it. I think I'll try it out one day but I tend to keep the 18-55 kit lens on that. I am also waiting on the 55-210 for that camera. I was disappointed by the colour shift you get with the Nex-7 with RF lenses but it's something we have to live with. The Nex-5N does a fine job though and I can't complain there either. 20440
NEX-5N Focal Length: 19 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/640 sec ISO: 100 07/08/12 Sigma 19 f2.8 for Nex IIII think the Sigma lenses on the Canon mount are so bad (apart from one or two lenses) because they are reversed engineered. That is why you should always test the lenses for decentering and general sharpness at all focal lengths and apertures. Sample variance is widespread and in the end I gave up on them. From what I have seen the Sigmas do a lot better on the Nikon mount and the success rate was higher for those buyers.
Saying that I don't think it gets much better than this 19 f2.8 on the Sony E mount. Sharpness is great and the focal length suits me fine for my wide angle work. I don't think I really need anything much wider than this normally. 13270
NEX-5N Focal Length: 19 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/640 sec ISO: 100 07/07/12 Sigma 19 f2.8 for Nex IIThe lens is not exactly a pancake but it's not all that big either. I always thought that the Sigma lenses worked better on the Nikon mount and now I know they work pretty well on the Nex mount too. Hmmm...I wonder what they`re like on the m4/3 mount. But then again I've got the Oly 17 f2.8 and the Panasonic 20 f1.7 and the PL 25 f1.4. So I don't think I need them for that mount but Sony is lacking in this area and I'm glad Sigma decided to bring this one out. 14633
NEX-5N Focal Length: 19 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/640 sec ISO: 100 07/06/12 Sigma 19 f2.8 for Nex INow this is a turnup for the books. As I read about the 19 f2.9 for Nex and m4/3 mount I immediately thought of the Sigma lenses I used on my Canon cameras. I swore I would never touch a Sigma lens again. Well, after reading all the reviews and looking at a lot of images on the internet I just couldn't say no, so I ordered one. To tell the truth this is one very nice lens. Very surprised. Although it is a little warm (like all Sigma lenses) it does produce sharp contrasty images. Build quality is okand focusing is quiet and fast. 1602
NEX-5N Focal Length: 19 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/640 sec ISO: 100 07/05/12 Voigtlaender Skopar 50 f2.5 on the Nex-5N VIIGreat texture and clarity to these images from the Skopar. Just enjoy the photographs. Not a lot more to say. 26154

07/04/12 Voigtlaender Skopar 50 f2.5 on the Nex-5N VIJust posting some images from the Skopar. It is really remarkable that this lens is so cheap. If you see it on sale, grab it. 2207

07/03/12 Voigtlaender Skopar 50 f2.5 on the Nex-5N VWhen I want to see what a lens can really do I tend to take the same route and take the same images as with other lenses. For me, this has the advantage of seeing how different lenses react to the same subjects. I know what a good lens can do with the different subjects that I take so I know what to look for. The route is around 8 kilometers long and takes me some three to four hours with all the stopping I do to get some photographs. It's a great walk, gets me some fresh air and I love just working on the images when I get home. This is the time I know if a lens will stay or will be put on the great auction house in the cloud. 26676
