04/12/15 Sony Alpha A7s - Voigtlaender Skopar 35 f2.51530
ILCE-7S Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/100 sec ISO: 200 04/11/15 Sony Alpha A7s - Voigtlaender Skopar 35 f2.5By modern standards, these Voigtlaender lenses can't be classed as expensive especially the Skopars. These can be had for a few hundred $/€ depending on where you live. Presently I own the 35 and 50 f2.5 lenses and both perform well. As I've stated before I don't use either on the A7 / A7r comeras but they fee quite at home on the A7s and perform best on APS-C or M43 sensors.
What attracts me to these lenses? Well it's just their signature and is not restricted to the Skopar series. I like using all of the Voigtlaender lenses and I do own quite a few of them. If you haven't tried one of these lenses before, why not just rent one for a few days if you can, you'll be pleasently surprised I'm sure. 1543

I really am impressed by the quality of these lenses, now built by Cosina. You know you have a quality product when handling these lenses. They should last you a lifetime if you take care of them. All metal and quite heavy compared to other lenses you can purchase today, it really is fun photographing with these gems. I now have quite a few Voigtländer lenses and I haven't been disappointed by any of them so far. Of course, don't use these on the Nex-7, you're just making more work for yourselves due to the purple edges you get from that sensor. If you shoot in B&W then you won't have that problem but I prefer to shoot colour and convert in PP. P.S. The vignetting you see does not come from the lens on the Nex-5N, I did that in PP. 1341

12/31/13 Voigtländer Color-Skopar 20 f3.5 SLThis lens was quite a surprise when it arrived at my doorstep. Very small and light and fits well on the Alpha cameras. It performs quite well on the A7 but I've still to test it on the A7R. To be honest I've been using the A7 more than the A7R because I think I'm getting better results with it. I.e. Better percentage of keepers. I think there's something in the shutter shock theory now coursing the Internet. I'll have to do some more testing on this though when I have the time.
What I'm planning at present is test all my favourite lenses I've using on my Nex-7 on the A7R but I can tell you now, those lenses will not perform as well on the A7R. I've noticed this with the A7 and it really stands to reason, The Alphas are full frame where the Nex is only APS-C. Lenses have to be very good to perform well on the A7R and it may be that I only have a couple of lenses that will pass the test. I'm not going to sell my Nex cameras as I have a few lenses that I just love using on them, especially on the Nex-5N. This camera produces very good image quality, even though many will call it an OLD camera nowadays. It's small and my Voigtländer Skopar lenses fit nicely on it because the lenses are very small indeed.
The reson for posting the above image taken with the Voigtländer Skopar 20 f3.5 SL is to show the quality of the converted image to B&W. I seem to be getting better conversion results using a gradient map with these files, rather than using the Nik SFXII plug-in. The image was taken on a very dark, windy and rainy day; just perfect for this type of image. Hope you like it as much as I do. 1247

12/24/13 Sony Alpha A7 - Voigtländer Skopar 35 f2.5I just love the Voigtländer lenses because to use them is a joy and image quality is very very good. I own a lot of these and I haven't found a lens lacking up to the Heliar 75 f2.5. Above that, in my opinion, the Voigtländer lenses start to deteriorate. I have the 85 f3.5 which I think is the worst Voigtländer lens I have used. I also own the 90 f3.5 which I find difficult to warm up to. maybe I have bad copies of both but I'm now going to test or exchange them for better copies, as I have other better lenses in the focal length range.
But all the others ranging from the 15 f4.5 heliar to the 75 f2.5 heliar, all are great lenses. On some of these lenses, like the 35 f2.5 Skopar and the 40 f1.4 Nokton the construction also includes the thumb lever for focusing. I think this is one reason I don't use these lenses more, I just hate using it. This thumb lever is found on Leica and rangefinder lenses also and I suppose somebody thought it a good idea to incorporate it into the lens design. I personally just can't get used to it and it just gets in my way. Apart from that I just can't fault these lenses, and the solid construction means these lenses will be with me for many many years to come. One final thing I have to mention is the price you pay for these lenses is very reasonable, in my part of the world you can get them for €400-€500. Try and purchase a Leica lens for that price. 1290

Will it be front heavy, or difficult to use? For this reason I'll be posting some images of certain lenses mounted on the new Sony Alpha A7 camera thinking that it will give some idea of how the system looks. I know I was searching for these images when I was looking at a certain lens so I hope somebody out there gets some use from these images. All of these lenses have given me good images on systems like the Sony Nex and M34 cameras but these lenses will be tested to the limit on the new Alpha cameras because of the full frame sensor it incorporates. I won't have the time to test all these lenses at present but I hope to report back with images and just an initial impression of the package. My initial thoughts is that many of my lenses will not be useable on the Alpha A7/A7R. The sensor will just outresolve the lens. Don't forget, most of these lenses are rangefinder lenses which are known to cause colour shifts at shorter focal lengths. I also believe that modern lens design is much better and from what I have seen, the new FE 35 f2,8 lens is stellar and will be hard to beat, but then again it costs a lot more than most of the lenses I use. If you have any wishes, just send me a mail and I'll see what I can do. 1062
unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 03/19/13 EquipmentI thought it might be quite useful to some people to see actual lenses mouted on various bodies to see how big or small they are for everyday use. In the image above you can see how small the CV 21 f/4 lens is on the Nex-5N and the Nex-5N can't be clasified as a large camera. If anything, it could be clasified by some people as being too small for use, and I can see their point of view. Since I have small hands it actually feels fine for me, but any smaller and I would have to say no. This is the smallest combination that I will consider. This lens is in the same league as the CV 35 F/2.5 and CV 50 f/2.5 lenses. Really small but delivers very good image quality. 1478
