Panasonic 25 f1.4 mounted on the OM-D

Panasonic 25 f1.4 mounted on the OM-D

The last for now from the 25 f1.4. Just a taster for you. I'll post some more images when I think they're good enough. Probably at the end of next month or thereabouts.
Really impressed here with the sharpness of the lens and with the DR of the Olympus OM-D. The hightlights were really harsh here but the OM-D managed to keep it all together.

Panasonic 25 f1.4 mounted on OM-D

This really is the lens to get for m4/3 format. I've heard a lot about it but really didn't think I needed it until I was shooting a dancing show in low light. That was it, I caved in and got it. Really sharp and works well on the OM-D. Just a couple of shots with this lens right now but I promise there will be more on this lens.

"Old Equipment"

The E-620 seems to have more noise in the images than the E-420 which is another reason I prefer the images from the E-420. I've used the Vario-Elmarit 14-150 f3.5-5.6 on the E-420 a lot and since the lens had ILIS it worked out great. That lens is sharp at all apertures at all focal lenths. It also still retails for some €1100. Quite an asking price but well worth it in my mind.

These images are not great, I just wanted to test how they still do with regard to the new cameras that have been released since I bought these. These orchids happened to be in bloom at the time and they make perfect testing models for this sort of thing. I believe that the Vario-Elmarit 14-50 f2.8-3.5 is one of the best kit lenses ever brought out. I also believe that it killed the sales of the Panasonic DMC-L1 because the asking price was astronomical. People who bought the combination though love it as I do. I've made some of my best images using this combination and with the Panaleica Vario-Elmarit 14-150 f3.5-5.6. I still use them on the L1.

"Old Equipment"

"Old Equipment"

The title suggests that I'm going back many years when I say old, but this camera only come out a few years ago. Of course it's obsolete within 18 months as technology advances at a fast pace. I also have the E-420 which was the model before the E-620 came out. Of the two I prefer the images from the E-420. So why also purchase the E-620? Easy, it has IBIS and the E-420 doesn't.
Going back to a post some days ago when I mentioned that people love to surround themselves with new equipment, both of the above mentioned cameras can make better images than I can make. I decide how the image is taken and with what settings, not the camera. Probably the E-420 would be enough for me but it's that new equipment addiction that pokes it's head out from time to time.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

This is the last image. I can't fault this one at all. OK, these aren't fine art images but they do tell a story about this lens. If you're looking for a light compact travel lens, this is the one for you.
Notice the use of the square format which I tend to use exclusively with my m4/3 equipment lately. I just like the format and it makes framing the subject easier for me. Also perfect for portrait shots.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

I think these images are sharp, even at this low resolution. Having said that, the smaller the resolution the shrper the images seems to be. But, having looked at the originals of these on my monitor I've come to the same conclusion. Maybe a little soft at the edges but it's good enough for me. I don't sell my images so I'm quite happy.

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

mZD 14-150 Sharpness

A small study of a flower to see just how sharp the mZD 14-150 is on the OM-D. Just three images in 3 different posts all taken with the OM-D and the mZD 14-150 lens. This will be the last of the 14-150 images again for now. After these posts I'll go back a little in time and post some images using some "antique" equipment. In the day and age of fast moving markets, and new equipment comes along almost on a daily basis, I think we all tend to get cought up in it to some degree. If you're like me then you get cought up in it a lot. But that's me, I've always been a bit of a technical freak.

I think these three images shows that it's not the equipment we use, but how it's used.
See for yourselves.

Amazing Colours

Some amazing colours. I have no particular reason for posting this image (taken with the OM-D and mZD 14-150 combination). I just don't seem to see colours like these pretty often.

Nik SFXII

Nik SFXII

There are times when you know an image will look better in B&W than in colour. This is such an image. Using Nik SFXII to develop it allows you a lot of leaway in the way the image will look. There's so much control that I sometimes get lost in all of it, but I do get there eventually. I think it's time to create some profiles because every time  I start a conversion, it's like starting from scratch again. Getting old I suppose.
