I desaturated this image but kept a hint of coulour coming through. I just prefered it like this over the other variation I did.

06/08/13 Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit Lens1198

06/07/13 Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensIf I was honest and looking at images at this size from different companies I don't think I could tell the difference. Could I tell that this image was from the GF1 and not from an Olympus OM-D? No I don't think so. Having said that there are a few lenses that do stand out and do prefer using them over others. This lens beats the Olympus 14-42 kit lens hands down in my opinion but I have read that others must have a steller Olympus kit lens as they find it very good.
This image was taken at an aperture of f/5.6 and at 45mm. So, it was wide open and it is actually quite sharp from corner to corner which says a lot for a kit lens.
The reason I actually took this image was because I saw a paddler going along quite nicely down the river Main. I'm not sure if I would do this as barge traffic is quite heavy here. 1211

06/06/13 Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensI couldn't let this series go without including a monchrome image (or two). I find that the lens makes a big difference in how I convert images to black and white. This one turned out ok.
Monochrome for me is an image with a lot of contrast, nearly harsh. I have seem some that contain only grey and have a distinct lack of contrast. Some of those image work obviously but most do not and are really not to my liking. Just my opinion of course. 1294

06/05/13 Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensI thought I would sneak this one in because I like the way it does people photos.
I don't know how you see this image but on my calibrated monitor, there could be a slight red tint to the image, something I get a lot of with my Panasonic cameras. Please let me know what you think of this one. Your monitor could be calibrated differently to mine. I really would appreciate some feedback on this one. 1161

06/04/13 Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensFor a minute here I thought I was in Venice. Of course I wasn't and I'm quite surprised how many people like doing this sort of thing. There are a lot of rowing clubs along the Main in Frankfurt and they do all sorts as well as the what I call "normal" rowing exercises. 1050

06/03/13 Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensI find it really hard to sell my equipment, as a matter of fact I don't (apart from what I consider really bad). I haven't bought all that much equipment that I consider really bad, I always attempt to work within the boundaries of what a certain lens or camera can do. If need be (and quite often it is so) I change my post processing workflow to suite the equipment. I think most people do this as equipment characteristics differ.
One afternoon I decided to get the old Panasonic GF1 out of the drawer and stick my favourtite kit lens on it; the Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. I still consider this the best kit lens ever made (although the Fujinon X 18-55 F2.8-4 lens is also a very good lens). One attraction of the m4/3 system is that the lenses are interchangeable with all the cameras made by Olympus and Panasonic. That, to me, is a great plus.
Right now I'm really struggling to get the correct colour from the newer Panasonic bodies but not with the Olympus cameras and since Panasonic has some good lenses lacking in the Olympus corner I just mount those on the Olympus bodies. I think the only Panasonic body I has really great colour from is the DMC-L1 which I still have and use with the PL 4/3 14-150 lens. A really remarkable combination. However at only 7.5MP it's not really competing with the newer models for resolution. Having said that I've printed out images at 80 x 60 cms and they look great. 1174

06/02/13 Older CamerasLooking back through my cameras I came across the Panasonic GF1 and the excellent Panasonic 14-45 f3.5-5.6 kit lens, so I stuck the lens on the front and took it out for a spin. Notice I bought a hand grip for it from Hong Kong and it fits my hand quite nicely now.
When compared to the Olympus OM-D, you do notice that the dynamic range is not as good on the GF1 but it really is so much fun to use. I think after this initial camera Panasonic lost their way with the release of the GF series. If the GX1 was meant as a replacement for the GF1 then I personally think they didn't quite make it. It might be a good camera but what was on offer didn't attract me enough to upgrade. I'm still waiting for the upgrade and I hope they bring one out with an internal EVF.
I've come to the decision not to buy any more cameras with an external EVF ever again, so that leaves out the new E-P5 Olympus have just brought out. It really does increase the bulk (and expense), and there is no excuse for NOT having an internal EVF as the OM-D shows. 1130

06/01/13 Fujifilm X100SThis was just a fun shot, taken as I was passing by with the camera held down towards my right knee. I just held it towards the cactus because the red/green contrast cought my eye. I never for a minut think that anything would ever come of it. Surprise, surprise.
This is probably the last image from the X100S for the present (but I can't promise you) as I intend on taking the X100S of holiday with me. Just can't leave it at home, the sensor is just too good. 994
X100S Focal Length: 23 mm Aperture: f/4.0 Exposure Time: 10/900 sec ISO: 200 05/31/13 Fujifilm X100STesting my manual focusing skills again and to see how much detail I could get in this cactus.
No complaints for me. I have set the minimum shutter speed at 1/60sec which is nearly double the focal length, set WB to auto and ISO to auto-3200. This is the first camera that I used these settings with and so far it hasn't let me down at all. All my past cameras have been set to exactly the prevailing conditions and not once have I set a camera to ISO 3200. There's always a first time I suppose. 1143
X100S Focal Length: 23 mm Aperture: f/4.0 Exposure Time: 10/600 sec ISO: 200 05/30/13 Fujifilm X100SCkecking out the red channel again and I didn't think the red could be held back from blowing out. Wrong again. It's very saturated but it hasn't blown out at all. Looking at this image at full size I can still see detail within the red flower. Note also how saturated the greens are surrounding the flower and the stones on the right leading to the flower are also true to life.
Is there anything this camera can't do? 995
