These lenses are so much fun. I'm not sure if modern day lenses are any better than the old manual focus ones. Zooms maybe, but the primes...not so sure. They will cost you next to nothing, and all you require then is an adapter to fit the m4/3 cameras.

03/19/12 Voigtlaender Nokton 50 f1,5 for NikonIf you didn't know already I'm a big fan of Voigtländer lenses. Excellent quality and images look just as good as if they were taken with Leica lenses. The rendition is not quite as good as the Leica lenses but I'm not going to pay the prices that Leica are asking. Even the second hand market charges much more for Leica lenses than what the Voigtländer lenses cost new. Since I'm not a professional here, I really do have to think about money at times. I don't earn a penny from my hobby, I just take pictures because I like it. But...remember you can't take that money with you when they carry you to the graveyard.
One thing about these Nikon mount lenses is that the aperture ring is the other way around. Just something to think about if you're thinking about purchasing one. Does take time to to get used to it. 1629
E-PL1 Focal Length: 0 mm Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/160 sec ISO: 200 • Voigtländer • Nokton • 50 f1.5 • Sony • Nex-5N • Nikon Mount
03/18/12 Voigtlaender Ultron 35 f1.7Another very good lens (if you can find one) is the now discontinued Voigtländer 35 f1.7. Much smaller than the Nokton 35 f1.2 and much lighter. Mine is in silver and looks pretty good. I'm not certain if you can get them in black, but that doesn't bother me at all. Again this image way converted with Nik SFX2. 1863
NEX-5N Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/100 sec ISO: 200 • Voigtlaender • Ultron • 35 f1.7 • Sone • Nex-5N
03/17/12 Voingtlaender Nokton 35 f1.2 IINow this lens is something special. I'm not certain if you can see it at this size but I can definately see the 3D effect with this image. The lens is not small and is quite heavy. having said that, the finishing and quality is superb. ou really know you have a quality product in your hand. Just makes you feel that the images will be great. Looking at this image at print size, well, I could look at it for ages. This lens is something special to me and I bought it for the occations when I photograph aquariums and the like. This oportunity will be coming very soon and I'll post some images from my visit. 1433
NEX-5N Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/640 sec ISO: 200 • Voigtlaender • Nokton • 35 f1.2 II • Sony • Nex-5N
03/16/12 Pentax SMC 28 f2.8 on E-PL1These lenses can be bought on ebay for next to nothing. This one taken with the Pentax 28 f2.8 is one of my favourites from last year. Converted with Nik SFX2 (which is fabulous by the way) it shows what this lens is capable of. I think one of my purchases for 2012 with be Nik Colour Efex. But the things are so damned expensive! I also wanted to upgrade to Photoshop CS5, but I bought a new computer instead for less, and my CS3 now runs very fast. No need for that upgrade. I think the pricing of these software packages if way too high. I think if they brought the price down, many more people would buy it and their base customers would increase, making them more money in the end. But maybe I'm missing something here. 1780
E-PL1 Focal Length: 14 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/250 sec ISO: 100 03/15/12 Olympus OM 50 f1.8 wide open at f1.8This is an image made with the Olympus OM 50 f1.8 manual focus lens on the E-PL1. You san see the dreamy look you get wide open. Like I said, it's not unpleasant but I like my images to have more defined edges to then.
On another note, I wonder sometimes why I have these other cameras, I seem to be selecting a lot of images made with the E-PL1. I certainly seem to like it and it works wondefully with all these lenses. I suppose I'm just a camera junkie. 1078
E-PL1 Focal Length: 0 mm Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/400 sec ISO: 200 03/14/12 Olympus OM 50 f1.8Another lens that cost me nearly nothing and it was the first manual focus lens I bought. You could say it was this lens (together with the Yashica 55 f2) that converted me to manual focus lenses. At f1.8 it has this dreamy look. Not unpleasant but I like mine a bit sharper with clearly defined edges. The next post will show an image with this lens wide open. It will clearly show what I mean. 1070
E-PL1 Focal Length: 0 mm Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/80 sec ISO: 200 03/13/12 Sigma 28 f2.8 Manual Focus Legacy LensAnother super cheap lens in FD mount. These 28 f2.8 lenses were made by the thousands and can be bought in excellent condition for pennies. Just like this lens actually. I've got a number of these and the Canon and Pentax seem to be a tad sharper than this one. Not to say that this lens is bad, because it isn't. O lot of people on many forums really pixel peep the images they get from these lenses. I think they should just get out more and take some images.
It really doesn't matter what you take an image of, the importance is that you learn from those images, how your camera works with the lens and vice verca. Get to know your equipment and you'll be taking better images in no time at all. 1421
E-PL1 Focal Length: 0 mm Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/800 sec ISO: 200 03/12/12 Voigtlaender 85 f3.5 adapted for m4/3There are some great bargains out there to be had. This lens which is now discontinued I believe, acts like a 170mm lens on a full format camera. I really need the IBIS with these longer lenses nowadays, I'm not as young as I used to be and hand holding these lenses is a real challenge. I cought this one from my balcony one evening not really thinking it would turn out into anything special. I like it. 1517
E-P2 Focal Length: 0 mm Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 200 • Voigtlaender • 85 f3.5 • E-P2 • manual focus • Olympus
03/11/12 Yashica 55 f2 Manual Focus Legacy LensThis is one of the sharpest lenses I own. Since aquiring the Olympus series of m4/3 cameras, I've been moving slowly to legacy manual focus lenses. Two reasons really, the first being that it is fun using these lenses (especially with the Olympus cameras). Secondly, they are cheap (but prices are rising fast). It slows you down so that you have to focus where you want the focus to be and that helps composition immensly. You look around the edges more, you move closer to your subject or move away if you're too close. If you haven't tried this yet, please do. It brings back some life into your photography. 2357
