Portrait or landscape orientation? When I picked up this hobby again after many years, I used to shoot a lot in portrait orientation. I liked to depth in my images and portrait orientation gave me that. Sometime between than and now, I can't say exactly when, I shot a lot in landscape. Nowadays it's about 50/50 but at this focal length I want to turn the camera and shoot again in portrait. Could it be that the lens focal length has something to do with it? I'm going to have to take note of the images I make to figure this one out.

05/12/13 Fujifilm X100S838
unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 05/11/13 Fujifilm X100SThe first couple of posts are going to be a couple of compilations, just to show what a 35mm equivelent lens will give you. You ahve to zoom with your feet of course, which is something I'm going to have get used to but after a couple of hours with the camera it does get easier. Then it's just a matter of training your eye for composition. That is something completely different. Some can adpt very quickly and some never manage it. It's how people see the world. Some see it with a 21mm or a 50mm lens, some with even longer lenses than that (myself included), but I wanted to try this out.
What I'm finding is that I tend to get in closer with this camera even when using zooms on other cameras. I'm going to have to try harder at this. 911
unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 05/10/13 Fujifilm X100SAfter using the Fujifilm X-E1 for a few weeks, and looking extremely closely at the files and what I can achieve with them, I just couldn't pass up on the new Fujifilm X100S. And what a lovely little camera it is, fitting nicely in the palm of my hand to carry about. It's even better than the X-E1 to carry, but then it has a fixed 23mm f2 (35mm=35mm) lens on it.
Having never owned a fixed lens camera before, I was a little apprehensive about purchasing this because basically I'm a zoom kind of guy. Zoom lenses weren't really good in the days of film but with the computer aided design methods of today and with the advancement in technology, zoom design and manufacture means that the zooms of today are very good indeed. Having seen the images made with the Fujinon XF 18-55 f/2.8-4 kit lens, I think, says it all. 959
unknown Focal Length: unknown Aperture: unknown Exposure Time: unknown ISO: unknown 05/08/13 Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensThe last conversion you are going to have to look at. I hope these images have shown at least some people just what this system is capable of, and I hope it has been of some interest to the rest.
Again very detailed and what I like about this image is the overcast sky. I couldn't tel the difference when I was taking this but in the conversion you can see the different cloud strength by the different tones. All this done without the banding problem I was experiencing with the old 12 megapixel m4/3rd sensor. The OM-D is much better in this respect, but then again, they used a different manufacturer this time around. A very good decision if you ask me. 1176

05/07/13 Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensThis will be the last image that I'm going to show from this combination at the moment. Some of you might be please about this, but I'm so enthusiastic about this system I just had to post these images over the last couple of weeks. 1021

05/06/13 Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensThere won't be a conversion for this image, I just thought I'd slip it in because I like it. These buildings are in the west harbour area of Frankfurt, Germany. 1084

05/05/13 Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensSharp, detailed and lots of different tones within this image. 1158

05/04/13 Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensAnd the next one. I find that the Frankfurt skyline offers me everything I need to test cameras and lenses. Notice how sharp these image are, and it has nothing to do with a lot of sharpening. These images are very sharp coming out of the camera. 1032
X-E1 Focal Length: 35.8 mm Aperture: f/8.0 Exposure Time: 1/450 sec ISO: 200 • Fujifilm • X-E1 • 18-55 f2.8-4 • kit lens
05/03/13 Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensThis a different format to the previous image with a slightly different angle of view.
I don't like flat monochrome images, hence the reason for the high contrast in these images. They are more pleasing to my eye. 1107

05/02/13 Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensOver the next three days I'll be posting some images that may seem to be the same. I can assure you they are slightly different, and a different workflow used for the conversions. 1000
