04/02/12 Sony Nex CamerasThe 18-55 kit lens was stuck on the Nex-5N for the first half of the voyage. I swapped it over to the Nex-7 for the second half as I wanted some wide angle shots that weren't spoilt by colour problems. The Nex-5N doesn't show this problem. I'm still impressed by the kit lens however and will not be getting rid of it, especially as the lens selection for the Nex cameras isn't all that great right now.
The scene above is typical for Norway this far north. The towns seem to be strung out along the cliff face, just hanging on to a bit of land between the sea and the mountains. Really amazes me how people can live up there, but then I don't suppose they know any different. They're used to it. 975

04/01/12 Sony Nex CamerasWe had some terrible weather heading north. This image is typical of the low cloud cover we had with some very heavy rainfall. I converted this to B&W in SFX2 to better show the clouds that were just rolling over us. Nex-7 with the CV 15 f4.5. 1013

03/31/12 Sony Nex CamerasHaving to post process the purple colour out of these photographs was a lot of work. Very time consuming. It was well worth it though. This is a squall that we were sailing parallel to. I'm glad I wasn't in it. It was freezing and I'm sure the rain was also. 993

03/30/12 Sony Nex CamerasAgain with the Nex-7 and CV 15 f4.5. We noticed that quite a few houses were built on rocky islands out in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't for the life of me think why except that it may be a summer house. I don't think anyone could live there in the winter. 1203

03/29/12 Sony Nex CamerasTaken with the Nex-7 fitted with the Voigtlaender Heliar 15 f4.5 lens. I know it doesn't look like it but I could hardly hold the camera still as the wind was gusting heavily. I took a number of shots here to make certain that one came out ok. This is the only half decent one I managed out of 9 shots. It was also bitterly cold up here. This lens is fine but, I won't use it on the Nex-7 any more because of bad colour shift. By that I mean that not only were the corners purple (fixable with a program caller Cornerfix), but both sides were purple. It took me quite some time to fix it in post processing. 1592

03/28/12 Sony Nex CamerasThis photograph was taken in Trodheim. This cathedral is quite large as you can see from the person walking into the image. I'm qquite surprised at the quality of the 18-55 kit lens. From what I've read on the Internet the quality varies considerably. I'm quite happy with mine. 1155
NEX-5N Focal Length: 29 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 1250 03/27/12 Sony Nex CamerasThis one was taken with the Nokton 35 f1.2 II in one of the largest sea water aquariums in the world. Obviously this specimen wasn't alive but it just shows what's possible with the Nokton. 1818
NEX-7 Focal Length: unknown Aperture: f/1.0 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 640 • Sony • Nex-7 • Nokton • Voigtlaender • 35 f1.2 II • Nokton
03/26/12 Sony Nex CamerasAgain with the new Nokton 35 f1.2 II lens, it produces lovely photographs. I just love the rendition it gives. This fast lens (with a couple of othersI took along) helped a lot because of the low light levels. Here, it was quite light which wasn't typical at all during the trip. 1450

03/25/12 Sony Nex CamerasDuring the month of January I went on a little cruise holiday to the north of Norway. It turned out to one of the most amazing trips I have ever done. Starting out in Bergen we travelled north, over the tip of Norway and down to Kirkenes, situated not far from the Russian border. As you can imagine, it's quite cold in January when you're in the Arctic Circle. That would be an understatment really. When on the ship travelling at an average speed of 15 knots the wind is really really cold, and trying to photograph scenes when you can't feel your fingers is no fun at all. What really upset me a bit was the amount of darkness one has, or put it another way, the lack of daylight you have during the day. The longest period we had was around 4 hours of daylight in one day.
However, after I got over my initial shock, we had some tremendous light when travelling back down towards Bergen. I would like to share some photographs of that trip with you in the following posts.
This one taken with the Sony Nex-7 and the CV Nokton 35 f1.2 II. An excellent combination which doesn't produce purple colour shifts. Wider lenses are a mess on the Nex-7 so my Nex-5N has been designated my wide angle camera from now on. 1271

03/10/12 Samsung EX1I think this turned out really well for a P&S. It was really a snapshot taken on the spur of the moment. Again, it's one camera that really has me stumped sometimes. Personally I think there's a minor bug in the firmware somewhere because some images are so blown out or the blacks are so blocked and for no reason at all. Doesn't happen every time but when it does this you can really delete the image. No recovery possible. 1682
