Olympus E-PL1-Olympus 14-150 f4-5.6

The Olympus E-PL1 was the first interchangeable lens camera that I really enjoyed using. It also impressed me with what was possible in this strange world I had stumbled into. My first "real" digital camera was the Canon 300D but that had some major drawbacks at the time. For me the E-PL1 had it all. I purchased the 14-150 f4-5.6 with the camera and I was thrilled with the performance and image quality. The colour was much better than the Canon to my eyes, and I still think that today. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking Canon I just prefer the Olympus colours.

Note the lens is the first generation, they did bring out a second generation with some minor updates but I prefer to use this lens on the E-PL1. It does show some weaknesses on more modern bodies but on the E-PL1 it works wonders. It's actually stuck to this body on a permanent basis, it does so well on it. I still use this combination today, even if the system is quite slow compared to the cameras of today. Mind you, I don't use it for any other purpose than for non-moving objects.

Some may ask why I use this camera/lens combination when I have more modern systems available to me; well if you look at the images, especially the colour of the images you will understand why. See a few images at the end of the post. I think there is also a difference between the older Olympus cameras and the new ones of recent years. The changes will now be more profound I think because Olympus has sold it's photography branch and is now called OM Systems. Who knows, they might not even survive in today's markets and that would be a real shame indeed. I just love the Olympus systems and the Micro Four Thirds format. The format suits me better than the 3 x 2 format. I think it's just too long. But that's just me.

A bit noisy this one. They were a little noisy back then at higher ISO.

You may have noticed I like the square format too.

I'll be shooting a lot more of that in the coming months.
